Beyond Penguins and Polar Bears

The National Science Digital Library provides high quality online educational resources for teaching and learning, with current emphasis on the sciences, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines—both formal and informal, institutional and individual, in local, state, national, and international educational settings.

Beyond Penguins and Polar Bears is an online professional development magazine which focuses on preparing elementary teachers to teach polar science concepts while also integrating inquiry-based science and literacy instruction. The Beyond Penguins and Polar Bears project is produced by an interdisciplinary team from the following organizations:

  • COSI (Center for Science and Industry) Columbus
