First training of CIARD RING China was held in Beijing
The CIARD RING China working group organized a training course in June 5-6 2012 in Beijing. Trainees were young and backbone staffs of agricultural institutions from zhejiang, jiangsu, Henan, Hebei, Shandong, Shanxi, Tianjin and Beijing. Dr.Meng Xianxue deputy director of the Agricultural Information Institute (AII) of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) addressed at the opening ceremony. Dr.Pan Shuchun, senior officer of the CIARD RING China working group, presided the meeting. Dr. Sun Wei, introduced the CIARD RING structure and function of the system, content standards, retrieval and register procedures. On the basis of understanding of CIRAD and CIARD RING activities, some practical work in registration to the CIARD RING had been done on site. This aimed to overcome the difficulties of each Chinese CIARD member met while they register by themselves. The step by step registration process lead the trainees more clear about the system structure and the metadata each resource or service required. The registered process had been a learning process for them. They felt excited when they registered their services successfully since they joined the agricultural information community through a unique open international platform. Discussions was conducted for solving the problems on site during the registration, and suggestions for improvement of the registering system in Chinese and use experiences were also collected. Particular and timely assistance from GFAR Secretariate and technical staff, FAO were provided for the registration course that made the training to be more successful. CIARD RING China personnel training is a practical step for Chinese CIARD members to contribute to the agricultural community. We shall try to speed up the agricultural information resource recycle, promote open access more of authorized agriculture information and scientific and technological achievements, and provide more effective services on the RING to meet the requirements of agricultural research and innovation.
